What I've learned via Fashion Blogging in 2010! (and I made something)

With Maggie's tutelage, I was able to complete my first hat in 2010, just in the nick of time! I am so proud! I never make anything! It feels good!

Well, the year is just about ready to come to an end- so hard to believe. Where has the time gone? I started my blog a few years back, focusing on food couponing and healthy eating, and this year I stumbled upon fashion blogging quite by accident because I discovered Anthropologie had a store in my area and I googled Anthropologie outfits and found, guess what??? Anthroholic!! I was hooked! I followed link to link and found a wonderland of fashion ideas! It's been a fun year jumping in and participating in the whole "OOTD" craze and along the way I've learned some lessons!

1. Beauty comes in many different packages! It's been great to find fashion blogs where the women are all different shapes and sizes, and have all different styles and ideas! I gain something from all of them! I, like many women, can always find fault with my own size, but I am learning to love me, flaws and all. As long as I am living a healthy lifestyle, I am learning to be happy with me! Reading many of your blogs has helped me a lot in this area of my life.

2. There are substitutes for just about every look out there! While I love being able to buy a quality item that will stand the test of time, it's just not possible for me to buy 100% Anthro, Jcrew, or the like, so I make the most of my trend shopping by studying the stores I like and then re-creating them via a less expensive route. It's a challenge and it's fun!

3. Gain from others but be yourself! I have learned so many things from bloggers this year that I would have NEVER tried before! Reading all the fashion blogs has really helped me step out of my "Gymboree Matchy Mode"! It's wonderful to gain inspiration from other bloggers, but I have learned I need to make it my own. There is nothing creative about seeing a blog friend buy an outfit, then go buy the exact same out and wear it. I've learned to use style principles and apply them to what I already have.

4. Having style doesn't equal shopping! This is a big one! When I first started blogging, I felt I had to always be buying something new to post. Thanks to wonderful bloggers like Kendi and Elaine, I have learned it actually takes more creativity and style to work with what you've got! I've learned I actually function better with less! Like Coco Chanel said "A girl should be two things - classy and fabulous!" Neither of which require a credit card!

5. Even if you are only staying at home all day, get up and get dressed! After having 3 kids in 1.5 years, I spent quite a bit of time in my "uniform" of tee shirt and sweats! When my twins were 3, I decided to get with it and exercise and eat right, I lost 40 pounds and it was fun to get dressed - even though I was only at home! There are no more important people to look good for than your family!

Thanks to everyone who stops by here to read and know that I appreciate all your comments and feedback!

Happiest of New Years to All! Here's to a wonderful 2011!

My most prized gift!

I just had to do a quick post to show you all what my 10 year old daughter made me for Christmas! I can't even believe it!

I had expressed interest in this beautiful shawl some time back when we saw it on Dottie Angel. My sweet daughter took note and set to work making it for my Christmas gift! I am amazed! She is self-taught and studied the photo and read the tutorial and made this all by herself!

I absolutely love it! I wore it today with a gray t-neck and tan cords and am wearing it again to church tomorrow with a black sweater dress. It's so Anthro-esque! She put her own spin it by adding her signature crocheted rose as a closure. I am so grateful for the gift of love, a hand-made item that took her time and patience to create something special for me!!

Santa Came!

Santa came and left us presents! So fun! We are having a great time with our Wii!

Thanks to all my blog friends who keep in touch via the blog-o-sphere! I appreciate every one of you and I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing holiday with your family and friends!

Be on the lookout for the debut of my "High Hopes Wrap" my incredibly talented 10 year old daughter made me for Christmas!

Went into the ol' workplace today for my 1 day this week! It is so great to work for a boss who is one of my dearest friends! We work together so great as a team and we laugh all day doing it! Who could ask for anything more? Too blessed to be stressed! (I heard that somewhere- probably on someone's blog!)

These babies are JUST what I was looking for....inspired by my friend Catherine at work! I had been admiring hers for a few weeks now and finally came across a similar pair!
And in other news, do these look like Kristina J's booties (seen on her here), because I love all the looks she wears with her super cool booties and I think I may have found a pair that fit the bill!

ROSS is like a box of chocolates....you never know what you're going to get!!

I have had my eye on a few items at ROSS that finally hit double, triple markdown!!

Free People Sparkle & Shine Cardigan
Retail Price $98- ROSS price $8!!
It reminds me of the Jcrew ones!
Mac & Jac Striped Assymetric Cardigan in black
Nordstrom Price $69, ROSS price $4.99!

Calvin Klein Sweater Dress
Zappos Price $102.40, ROSS price $4.99!!! Calvin Klein has the nicest quality sweater dresses!

These are all high quality items that I got at a fraction of the price!!

I was watching "What Not To Wear" while on holiday (we don't have TV, so it was a real treat!) and Stacy kept saying to the client, "You have to pay more for your clothes to get the quality" and I kept thinking, "No you don't, not if you have patience and know where to look!"

Santa left me another present......at Anthro!!

I went on a little Secret Santa shopping errand tonight and happened to be by an Anthropologie. Took a quick run through the sale room, looking for "1-offs" as I call them, and happened upon this beauty for $9.98! It's the Odille Splendid Celebration skirt!! I can't wait to style it with some boots and a sweater!!

I love the colors, the vintage vibe, the nice lining, the pockets and the waistband!

Thanks Santa!

Here it is on Ginger Girl! Hey Pamela, have you worn it with the boots and fitted sweater yet, like you planned back in August?? If so, I would love to see it!!

OOTD-Warm up for Reader Outfits Target: Merona!

"Don't hate me because I'm beautiful."

Does anyone remember that campaign from Pantene from the 80's featuring Kelly LeBrock? My sister and I used to say that line constantly being stupid when we were kids.
Here is my Merona outfit posted today to inspire others to join in the Reader Outfits I will post tomorrow! My lovely niece had this Merona scarf when she came to visit, so of course, I had to get it - I fell in love with the bold, winter colors! I got this Merona cardigan for $6 on the 75% off rack, and could never find it online. I love it. The color is perfect to match many things in my closet, including my new beloved BOOTS!

Going to see the lights and Christmas windows downtown tonight -soooo excited!! And I'd like to ask my Christian friends that they say a prayer for my blog buddy, Leah's brother who has to have some tests run tomorrow. Thanks!

Reader Outfits: Target: Merona!!

It's time for Reader Outfits featuring clothing from Target! You all know Target is MY STORE - and how I love to find bargains there! I think Target has a lot to offer with their designer collaborations and their standard fashion for less lines like Merona, Mossimo, Converse and Xhilaration. Target makes fashion fun for me because I can add some new pieces to my wardrobe each season while remaining on a budget!

The focus of this week's Target outfits will be Merona!! Send me your best outfit incorporating Target's great Merona clothing line.

To join in, please email me your picture by Thursday, December 9th and I will post the submissions on Friday, December 10th! The outfit doesn't have to be 100% Target, just incorporating a piece or two into your ensemble will be great too! Thanks!

Christmas Wish!!

These are my two impossible wishes! I believe in Santa Claus!
If anyone has either to sell, give me a shout out! Thanks!

Two-Wheeler Shirtdress size 6

OOTD-Lotta Layerin' Going On!

I did this outfit to take part in Lisa's upcoming Respect the Outfits, Jcrew. I don't own a lot of Jcrew, but I have gotten my use out of this tiered ruffle cardigan for sure.

Dress: Max & Sam via ROSS
Cardi: Jcrew Tiered Ruffle Cardigan
2nd Cardi: Target Merona
Boots: Sears
Here I am posing like a Jcrew model. What is up with that? Me and the kids always crack up at their crazy hair, half-tucked shirts and pigeon toe stance.
Day one of our Countdown to Christmas calendar! This was today's prize!
